Daybook, Wednesday April 26, 2016

Outside my window:
This must be what Spring is like, Its not hot! Hurrah! Each day is pretty mild with a cool breeze in the morning and evening and a little rain. I know its not going to last much longer.

I am:
Recuperating. In the last three weeks, I've had dental surgery and bronchitis, three different antibiotics, two cough medicines, two pain medicines and an asthma inhaler. It has zapped my strength. I am typically asleep on the couch at 8:30 every night and I am ready to be completely over this and get back to my regular every day not sick life.

I am planning:
Second quarter goals. Slowly starting to put up curtain rods in the living room and most of the stuff for the vegetable garden. I now just need to actually start.

I am Listening to:
"Think like a success. Act like a success", an audiobook by Steve Harvey. I love it. Christian with scriptures included.

I am watching:
The buds in the rose bed. All have made beautiful flowers. Abraham Lincoln was the first to bloom, followed by Abraham Darby and Gold Cup.  Now, all three have small buds again.

I am watching (part two )
Outlander. I said I wasn't going to watch this season. Its ridiculous how hooked on this show I get, but the season premier came on and what did I do? That's right and now I'm hooked again.

I am reading:
Stepping up Bible study by Beth Moore with the women's ministry at church and Kay Arthur's study on Ruth with the older ladies at church. I usually pick one or the other group and I try to avoid doing two studies at once, but ... I didn't want to sit out on either of these. Its been a lot of work.

I am cooking:
Not much cooking has been going on in my house lately, other than breakfast smoothies. I did just get this bread machine and I plan to have fresh bread soon. I also bought a share of the summer season at the Community Supported Agriculture farm, so I'll have to start cooking soon.

I am irritated:
at the blue jays in the yard. They have suddenly become very territorial and dive bomb the dog when she goes outside. Thus far they haven't touched her and the poor thing, she doesn't know enough to know she is being attacked. She is an old thing and just going about her business.  But it is obvious to me and this is her house for crying out loud!  Blue Jays are so aggravating to the point that I have stood outside and told them out loud that their behavior will stop.  I bet they have made a nest nearby.

I am looking forward to:
My Stitch Fix! Its suppose to arrive on Friday. it is so nice to find a little surprise at my door after a long week.  I haven't been talking about it much, but I still get the boxes almost every month, and I love them.  I keep at least one item from every box and sometimes, two or three. Its true what they say, the longer you get the boxes the more they get to know you and send you things you like and want, and the pieces build on themselves, in that they match from past boxes.   I do find the pieces to be a little bit pricey- but I also think it balances out when you think of the time, energy, gas money going all over town or the shipping charges ordering something...

small Masterbath projects

first quarter goals provided quite a bit of weekend projects. All the major things in the bathroom are out of the way and the rosebed is done. Still need  want a new shower curtain, full length mirror, sink fixtures and pictures for the walls....

After the torture of wallpaper and painting was out of the way, these are a few of the more fun things....

My original plan was to throw out the gold fixtures and update with bronze ones. That was until I saw the toilet paper holder was $25.00. (!!) The new plan was buying $8.00 can of spray paint and painting everything bronze. It worked!

Instead of taping notes and things to the inside of the bathroom cabinet door, I glued some corkboard and made my own little message center. (I used hair clips to hold it in place while it dried). I've got the same thing on some of my kitchen cabinets.

I already had the curtain rod and brackets (bought one too many from JC Penny when I first moved in the house) and curtains (from TJ Maxx). I had to buy one more set of brackets at Walmart. So for a total of $9.88,  and what I already had lying around the house, I now have bathroom curtains up. I love them.

I also love the new rug. I chose the lighter bathroom wall color to coordinate with the darker bedroom color and wanted to find a rug that coordinated but not matched perfectly with the rug in the bedroom. This is the rug in the bedroom (and the same color walls.)

A new laundry basket from Target. Its wire so I can put damp towels in it without too much thought and it was $16.99

A clock on sale from Target for $8.00 sits on a narrow wall near the window. I don't want to be a clock watcher every morning so I found a spot that is out of the way but still clear enough to glance at each morning when getting dressed.

Things I regret buying

Palmolive Tropical Tango
what was I thinking? Palmolive is my favorite of the grocery store variety and Mrs. Myers is my favorite of the slightly more expensive variety, but this one was not even close to Palmolive. It was bright pink and watery and did almost nothing and the bottle went so fast! I cant get back to my thick green original Palmolive fast enough.  This was $1 at the dollar store, but with coupons, I can easily find the original one for even less. I'm sorry I even tried this one. ick.

Cetaphil makeup remover
It did nothing for me. It barely took off the makeup and I always had to use something else behind it. I kept it only for emergencies when I ran out of other makeup remover, but thank goodness it is empty now. I wont be repurchasing it.

Trader Joe's Taco Seasoning
The only taco seasoning they have in the entire store. So I was already put off by the lack of selection. But nonetheless, had to have it for whatever recipe I was tinkering with. I didn't like it. Its spicy and has a distinct smoky taste. I just do not like it.

Nourish Organic Face Cleaner
At least I didn't buy this one. It came in a sample box. Similar to the Cetaphil, it did almost nothing and I was so displeased, I threw it away before it was empty.

few things that have made me happy lately

When the dog bites
When the bee stings
When I'm feeling sad
I simply remember my favorite things
And then I don't feel so bad

I can certainly talk about quite a few dog bites and bee stings but,  these are a few things that have made me happy lately....

Finding a really nice, name brand consignment store with pretty cheap prices has made me very happy. Sometimes you just hate everything you own and want one or two small things to spruce up your closet and this cardi and silk top did it for me. Similar to the payday pretty concept,  I got an attitude adjustment without spending much for the new sunny disposition.

Being greeted every morning and afternoon with the new statute at the front of my subdivision has made me inexplicably happy.

Pink tulips on my coffee table. Its a week worth of happiness for $8 at the grocery store.

Cooking breakfast for the youth. Once a month an adult supplies a full breakfast.  This month, it was me. I cooked one pound of bacon, three pounds of sausage; 36 biscuits,  20 yogurt parfaits with strawberry yogurt, strawberries, granola and chia seeds; 10 yogurt parfaits with vanilla yogurt; fresh strawberries with cream cheese dip and bananas. I enlisted a partner and she made grits, monkey bread, scrambled eggs and ice coffee. It was a lot of work, meant three trips to the grocery store, a late night Saturday and an early morning Sunday, and my kitchen being wrecked more than once.  But its fun in its own torturous sort of way and makes me happy.

The first rose from my new rose bed, Mr. Lincoln, siting in my bathroom. He is so big and smells heavenly. He honestly makes the whole bathroom smell good and makes me happy every time I see him. (Abraham Darby should be making his first appearance shortly).
